Episode 40: December Birds in the Red Oak

Recorded on December 7, 2024, at the dogtrot after the season's first hard freeze, this is the sound of birds basking in sunlight illuminating a red oak in the pasture. Listeners will hear the gentle wingbeats of winter residents, including House Finches, Tufted Titmice, Carolina Chickadees, House Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos, American Crows, American Robins and Northern Cardinals. As the wind pushes out the cold front, the soothing rustle of wind through broomsedge bluestem and the leathery leaves of the red oak adds a layer of calm, creating a serene soundscape of green noise.
